The Vest: An Honest Analysis

I’m just going to put this out there. I don’t like my vest.

Can I even explain the disappointment of working hard on something, anticipating its awesomeness and my return to my Bohemian roots, only to look in the mirror and feel my already low self-image plummet even farther? I guess I just did.

I’ll let you judge yourself before giving you my post mortem.

Here’s where I think I went wrong:

1. The yarn I used was too heavy. I think this made it extra ruffly in the front.

2. It’s not long enough for me. I think on a petite 5’2″ person, this would look awesome. Looking at the cropped pictures, I’m even more convinced of this.

3. I attempted to make something where fit mattered. I know I’m bad at that.

Here’s what I did right:

1. I tried something new.

2. I followed the pattern, but didn’t try it on before the final three rows. It is not a bad pattern or even a bad execution, just a bad fit. (Ok, I’m not sure if that is something right or something wrong…)

3. I’d totally make it again for one of my daughters checking for fit.

4. I finished it.

5. I took pictures in it despite my self-image.

What are your thoughts on my execution of the Lotus Mandala Circular Vest? Do you like it? What could I have done better.

  1. You’re right it is too small. Too many colors and very 60ish. Not my style . Nice pic of you though!

  2. I agree that the weight of the yarn and the size would make a huge improvement but other than that you did a great job! You look good too so don’t worry about that 😉 keep up the good work! I love your crocheting adventures

  3. I think it looks so cool from the back! Totally worthwhile to find a way to make one that will work for you.
