The Mystery is Over

I discovered Sewrella through my Happy Yarn Mail a few months ago. She does the whole thing out of her house by herself, but she also has a blog that she uses to help support her young son. This week on the blog, she decided to run a Mystery Crochet Along. The premise was simple–each day for five days she would post a piece of the pattern, but she wouldn’t tell us what we were making.

I like to be a purist during a crochet along, but I did make one small change to this one on Day 4. Otherwise, I followed along like a few hundred other people as we worked together (though separately) to make this fun project.

This was a great project for many reasons:

  1. The “mystery” aspect of it was a lot of fun.
    • I had to pick colors without have any clue what I was making. If I’d known I was making a floral bunting, I probably wouldn’t have chosen red, white, and blue, but I would have missed out. I like the final product.
    • It was fun trying to guess what it would become each day. I will say that the day we added very bulky flowers, I knew that it was most likely a bunting.
    • I might never have made it if I’d known what it was going to be. I really enjoyed it, but I don’t really do seasonal home decor items.
  2. I’ve never made a bunting before. Mark this up as a first for me!
  3. I used up some leftover  yarn.  As it turns out, I had just enough red, white, and blue yarn left over from my Happy Yarn Mail last month. Not knowing that I would need more blue, I looked for a complementary color. I found a dusty blue that was given to me after my grandmother passed away. It seemed perfect to tie it all together.

Would I do a mystery CAL again? Absolutely!
