I finally made my decision on a temperature blanket this year…and it’s not a blanket at all!
In the past few years, I have tried my hand at embroidery and really come to love it. (Read about my embroidery adventure here.)
I decided my temperature project this year would be an embroidered tree.
I went to Etsy and searched for an embroidery pattern. I have special paper that can be printed on to easily get the pattern onto the fabric. What I found was so much better–a pre-printed pattern that arrived in the mail quickly!

The pattern by PearsOnPrint, has a leaf for each day of the year. I bought some DMC floss from Amazon and paired it with some generic floss in my stash to choose my colors (more than are shown here).
Embroidery gives me a little more freedom than crochet on this project since I don’t have to worry about the size it will be in in the end. I have chosen to log the low temperature (right side of leaf) and high temperature (left side of leaf).
I am up-to-date so far.

The last leaf made coincides with Snowmageddon 2026 where we got more than a foot of snow. I’m thinking I might add snowflakes via French Knot for each inch of snow we get near the leaf. Then I can do the same for rain in blue as well. I’ll have to try it out a little to see how it looks. Another option is a flower for each inch of rain at the base of the tree. The possibilities are endless.
I know it’s not crochet, but I’ll try to keep you updated as the year goes on.
Now, I need to go let the dog out in the snow that is as tall as he is.
Happy stitching, –Heidi

What a great idea. It will be beautiful.
Several years ago I did 2 lines of crochet daily based on my emotional state. I found it revealing.
