Happy Yarn Mail · Subscription Box

The Day About LOVE

My kids are homeschooled, but we have a once a week Community Day where we meet with others in the area who are also using the Classical Conversations curriculum. Tomorrow, we celebrate Valentine’s Day.

It’s a practice I normally would have scoffed at, but there are a lot of things my kids don’t get to do. We don’t go all out to celebrate every single holiday. We might briefly read about George Washington on President’s Day or watch a documentary about Martin Luther King, Jr., but I don’t make themed treats or crazy crafts. I guess I’m just not that person.

On Valentine’s Day, my kids get to make their own Valentine’s Box (this year we have the eye of Sauron and two unicorns). They get to give Valentine’s to their friends, and they are finally the age where they actually put a lot of thought into.

Last night, I worked up January’s Happy Yarn Mail, a monthly subscription box service with a proprietary pattern and created, packaged, and mailed by a young mom, who crochets and blogs. This project was perfect for Valentine’s Day.

The package came with enough yarn to make two pouches. I’ve decided it’s the perfect size for a small gift and candy, so I’m going to add three more to this one for my kids this year. Hopefully it will be something we can use over and over again.

The decoration on the second pouch is a large and small heart applique. I decided to use the pattern and make bookmarks for my class tomorrow. Six girls and one boy.

I hope they like them. I’m not sure those five- and six-year-olds read the types of books you need a bookmark for yet, but hopefully they will love them anyway.

Happy Valentine’s Day.
