Meteorology Becomes Cool

In our home school, my kids just finished a unit on meteorology and climate. It was fun to learn about the different kinds of weather, the ocean currents, and that sort of thing. (Because it’s home school, I just finished the unit, too.) There were definitely some interesting tidbits, but didn’t necessarily always relate to us. My children have never been to the ocean, so they don’t have first hand experience with waves and tides.

On the other hand, with these temperature blankets, I’m suddenly very aware of the weather where I am. I can see the random highs and lows. I see the low temperature become the high temperature. I see 30 degree jumps throughout the day and I see three degree differences.

January 10 had a low and a high within three degrees of each other. In my blanket, that makes one entire round in the same color.

I was excited that I had less ends to weave in–a little bummed that I’d fastened off the same color on the round before.

As different as it looked with this change, the look of my square changed abruptly when I added January 11.

We are finally having some winter temperatures, so I got to add a new color! I love it!

It will be so interesting to see what this square becomes. And as I look back, I realize that meteorology is kind of cool. You won’t see me going back to school for a new degree, but seeing the temperatures in visual form is quite intriguing.
