Yarn

Christmas in July

Imagine this: you’re on vacation and you get an email from a friend telling you about a yarn sale. You could ignore the email, or you could click on the link and treat yourself. I’ll let you guess what I did.

Lion Brand yarn was offering a Christmas in July special–a Santa sack filled with mystery yarn. Did I need it? No. Did I want it? Maybe. Could I resist the $19.99 price tag? No.

Merry Christmas to me! I received my Santa sack this week and am excited to share what was in it!

Inside were three skeins each of three different yarns.

First was three skeins of Ice Cream Yarn Roving in the Double Bubble colorway. I am going to challenge myself to create a new baby blanket with this yarn. The three skeins look like plenty for a project like that.

Next were three skeins of Hometown in the Slatington Slate Colorway. I have used this yarn before. I think the idea behind the Hometown brand is that it matches the colors of your high school football team. The yarn is thick and quick to work up. It makes a substantial blanket or is great for scarves and hats. I am challenging myself to create a new scarf with this yarn and maybe a hat to match if I have enough.

Finally, I received three skeins of Lion Brand Premium Limited Edition in greys. I have not decided what I will use this yarn for yet. Any ideas? I’m not sure there’s enough for a baby blanket. Maybe some sort of accessory?

Was the Santa Sack worth it? Mostly. I was a little disappointed to get two yarns that I have used before. I thought there would be more variety and I like to discover new yarns. But to get all of this yarn for that price was certainly worth it. Retail price would have been much higher.

What would you make with this yarn?
