“And we’re going to get married.”
Did you sing it? I did. I couldn’t bring myself to write “ma-air-air-ried” though.
It’s wedding season, and you know what the means: blankets.
I’ve been working on a new wedding blanket pattern this spring, but I keep getting distracted. First, I needed make a baby blanket, then I needed to make a wedding blanket for a different couple. Long story short, it’s not done yet, though hopefully it will be soon.
For this wedding blanket, I chose to go with a paid pattern. The Double Wedding Ring Crochet Heirloom Pattern cost $8.00, but it was worth it.
Here’s what the artist, Jennifer Olivarez, had to say about the pattern: “With its interlocking rings symbolizing marriage, the Double Wedding Ring design holds a beloved place in American folklore. Traditionally, the quilt was made by mothers and grandmothers as a gift to their children on their wedding day or anniversary.”
She goes on to tell about the legend, “Old American folklore even suggests that a marriage was blessed if the couple spent their first night together under a Double Wedding Ring quilt.”

For this pattern, I chose to use Caron Cloud Cakes Perfect Phasing in the sage colorway. The pattern is worked in squares joining as you go. I worried that the ombre of the yarn would not work, but it does. The interlocking design makes a gorgeous finished product. I used 5 cakes of yarn and an H (5 mm) hook. I chose the 6×6 square size and it will be perfect for the young couple to throw over the couch and have handy for cooler days.
If you chose to use this yarn, I will warn you that it is easy to break the yarn if you pull too hard. I’m not worried about the integrity of the blanket, but I did need to take extra care not to break it.

The “wedding rings” are finished on the outside while working the border. Despite its lacy design, this blanket is actually quite warm.
I will definitely be making this pattern again in the future.
Peace Out, Heidi
It’s lovely. 💖
