I spent the last three days making seventeen crochet stress balls. I made them before and gave them away for gifts and things. My mother-in-law asked for some for the nursing home, so I got out the supplies and started crocheting.
And it was SOO much fun!
I have come up with two different methods for making them: the mouth bubble and the bottom bubble.
The bottom bubble is fun because it looks like a chicken is laying an egg, a spider is making a web or egg sac, and the octopus inks (“You made me ink!”–Finding Nemo).
The mouth bubble method leaves the animal with its mouth hanging open making them seem never at rest. They are getting ready to get the tar squeezed out of them, so I guess it makes sense.
For this project I used these stress balls, these eyes, and this yarn. I used an H-hook (5mm), which made a tight fabric, so the stress ball is only coming out where you want it to come out. The yarn came with plenty, and I could probably do another seventeen stress balls (one of the balls came broken) easily with the yarn I have left.
I did not use a pattern for this, just trial and error. And a whole lot of fun!
In total I made:
- 2 chickens
- 2 eagles
- 1 cardinal
- 3 fish
- 1 spider
- 3 octopus
- 1 bear
- 1 lion
- 1 bee
- 2 frogs
Which one is your favorite? Hands down, mine is the eagle. I absolutely love them.
