Introducing the 2019 Temperature Blanket

Are you one of those people who won’t start a second project until you finish the first one? I’m not one of those people. I don’t even know if I know any of those people.

I haven’t finished my 2018 Temperature Blanket yet. I had to wait on a yarn reorder before finishing, and I’m still in September! I’m still holding out hope that I can finish it by the end of the year–however unrealistic that might actually be.

So, as I finish, I’m already looking ahead to next year. I’ve been thinking it over in my mind and I think I’ve come up with a new pattern. It will be a lot different from this year’s and a little less complicated.

Here are my colors:

The color choices for my 2019 Temperature Blanket.

I’m using a few more colors this next year. I’ve chosen Paintbox Yarns Simply Aran and will be using the colors:
* Evergreen (230)
* Melon Sorbet (216)
* Banana Cream (220)
* Buttercup Yellow (222)
* Raspberry Pink (243)
* Bubblegum Pink (250)
* Grass Green (229)
* Daffodil Yellow (221)
* Mandarin Orange (217)
* Duck Egg Blue (235)
* Tomato Red (212)
* Dusty Lilac (246)
* Pansy Purple (247)
* Lime Green (228)
* Red Wine (215)
* Pale Lilac (245)
* Sky Blue (238)

I have omitted colors for the precipitation and there is not background color. Also, the temperature in my neck of the woods never got over 93 degrees this year, so my colors end at 90+ this year. You may have to change the scale of the temperatures covered to fit your climate.

The plan this year is for each month to get a square that will be 62 rows around. Sounds insane, right? I don’t think it will be. I will be using the compact moss stitch.

The squares will be assemble in the above manner and make a good-sized blanket. That’s the plan anyway. Stay tuned to see how it unfolds.

  1. I love that plan, but January has 31 days and February only 28. what do you plan to do with missing spaces and extra squares? I definitely want to try this layout! It’s all new to me, can you give a rough estimate as to how much total yarn you think it will take? Then I can kind of figure out how much for each range based on last year’s temps,

    1. Unfortunately, since I haven’t made this pattern before I’m not exactly sure how much yarn you’ll need. I bought 18 – 3.5 oz skeins, which I hope will be enough.

      As for the months like February, I will just put extra rounds of the last color or a neutral color.

      I’m sorry I can’t be more specific.
