Comfy and Classic

Blog posts haven’t been quick in coming lately. I’m not working on anything new and exciting. I’ve been working on blankets for a pregancy center again. This one is in the Detroit, Michigan, area and is just starting up. I wasn’t sure if I should send my blankets outside our area, but it just seemed like the thing to do—especially because we know the family well.

I’ve been sticking to the Corner-to-corner method and another pattern I got from Annie’s Caring Crochet Club.

This time, I was craving something different and went back to the classic Call the Midwife Blanket pattern. The story behind this pattern is that people fell in love with a beautiful blanket that appeared on Call the Midwife—a BBC show about midwives in London in the 1950s.

The author of this pattern recreated the pattern by looking at the example in the show. After her post went viral—because this blanket is so beautiful—it was discovered the pattern was originally published by Patons. So, now the pattern is available with their endorsement. Isn’t that awseome.

I am so glad she shared this pattern. I made it once before in purple with yarn given to me after my grandma passed away a couple of years ago. It was special to work with her yarn.

This time, I used Lion Brand Ice Cream Yarn Big Scoop in Mint. I have used Ice Cream yarn before, but never in this color way. I was impressed. The repeats in the yarn graduation seemed to match up with my pattern to make them consistant. It is not something that is necessary, but something that added to it’s beauty.

I also have enough yarn left over to make half of another blanket! What good is that? I have been playing with a pattern just released by Lion Brand called Granny Triangles Afghan, that uses two different color ways for one blanket. I have one in process and I’m hoping to be able to use the leftover yarn to make another one!

So, I have no knew pattern for you today, but I do have a comfy classic to share with you. In fact, I’ll be pulling out a yellow variegated later today to start another one.

Have you made the Call the Midwife blanket? Will you?
