Let’s Talk About…Scrunchies

It started innocently enough.

After seeing multiple crochet scrunchies pop up on my Pinterest feed I simply asked, “Are scrunchies really back in?!”

The answer I got was a resounding, “YES!”

I had a lot of scrunchies growing up. With nearly waist-length, thick hair, I was very picky about my scrunchies. There were only certain ones that would do, but they were something I used daily. I can’t actually remember when I stopped wearing scrunchies, but I don’t know that they came to college with me.

Well, my curiosity got the better for me, so I decided to give it a try. How hard can it be to make a scrunchies?

It turns out, it’s not hard at all. What it basically boils down to is taking an elastic hair tie, single crocheting around it as many times as possible, and then crocheting in each of those single crochets three to five times. That’s it. Easy peasy.

So, in one day, I went from questioning the scrunchies’ validity to signing up to have a booth full of them at a craft show in two weeks. Maybe I finally found what will make me rich.

Most likely I’ll just end up with carpal tunnel and a whole lot of hair ties, but if they go out of style by then, I’ll just hold on to them and surely they’ll come back in style in another 20 years or so.
