Stitching Spring Flowers

Last May, I saw a pattern for a flower blanket advertised on Facebook and knew I had to make it.

I downloaded the pattern and immediately shopped for the yarn. The Gradient Garden Blanket is made using Premier Cotton Fair Bulky yarn. I don’t make too many items using cotton yarn. This was a blend of 52% cotton and 48% acrylic. The yarn itself is thick and the biggest issue with it is the strands unraveling, so if you use it, tuck those ends in right away. Hexagon squares are worked individually and sewn together at the end.

I didn’t actually get around to making this blanket until December. Other projects kept finding priority. The timing was fun though because as the weather was turning from fall into the depths of winter, I was working on nice, spring flowers! I have always loved spring!

The weight of the blanket is comforting and the cotton will only become softer the more it is washed.

I did not begin this blanket knowing who I was making it for. Sometimes you just have to trust that the right person will come along when it’s finished. That was definitely the case here.

My kids were invited to a Chronicles of Narnia birthday party. The birthday girl would love this blanket. On a deadline, I finished weaving in those pesky ends and then washed and dryed it. Into a bag it went for the party.

I don’t usually do gift reveals, but this one was too good to pass up. After all, this is really why I do it.

That smile says it all!

Until next time,

Keep stiching, Heidi

  1. Oh Heidi that’s MAGNIFICENT. The young lady will treasure it forever and your children for giving it.
