It’s all about the photos
In this Instagram world, it’s no surprise that good photos make the difference between a successful post and one that people will not look at again. I’m not claiming to be an expert, but I have a few tips for making photos better.
First, use a good camera. I’m an Android girl, and I thought I bought a phone with a good camera, but it’s just not reliable to take pictures. I have been almost exclusively using my ipad to take pictures. The camera is much better and it takes crisp pictures.
Second, INDIRECT LIGHTING. This has been the MOST helpful tool. Since I first took the photo below, I knew that was going to be the best lighting. The sun is just barely coming in the window and the colors look close to what they actually are.

I fully intended to take my pictures today on the front porch which had been a good location when it was cloudy. I missed my window for indirect lighting by minutes though and took the squares back to the dining room table.

I can’t complain about sunshine though. Soon it’ll disappear until spring. Gotta love the clouds in Western PA.
Third, use a neutral background. You want to showcase your work. Make sure the surface is free of debris, so they don’t show up in the picture. My current favorite locations are the dining room table, the living room floor, and the cushions of the couch on my front porch.
Fourth, make sure you block your squares and hide any loose ends. I haven’t taken my advice on the blocking thing. Below is a picture of a blocked square and an unblocked square. You can see the difference.

The unblocked photo is a little wonky.
I hope these tips will help you in your crocheting endeavors.
Keep stitching, Heidi
