If you can’t tell from my posts lately, I love a granny square. I also love a blanket that uses the “join as you go” method so I don’t have to sew all of the squares together at the end.
The Pocketful of Posies pattern was born early in the summer while I was sitting in my parents’ garden, mimicking the blooms that were surrounded by lush, green leaves. My parents’ garden is one of my favorite places.
In this blanket, the delicate, puffy flowers are surrounded by a green lattice and worked in one piece (no applique here). This pattern has written instructions, photo tutorials, and diagrams to answer any question you might have. This is the first pattern I have written with detailed diagrams thanks to a template I found on Etsy by Sarah at hookandtanget.com.

I used the following yarns for my blanket:
- 2 skeins Baby Bee Sweet Delight Prints in Paper Mache (428)
- 1 skein Baby Bee Sweet Delight Prints in Bubblegum (303)
- 3 skeins Baby Bee Sweet Delight in Shamrock ‘N Roll (10)
Using a 4.5 mm hook, each square measures 5 inches. I made a baby blanket using 6 squares by 6 squares, and it’s finished measurement is 33.5″ square. I’ve also included instructions for a throw size blanket at 52″ x 62″.

The simple border reflects the lattice pattern from the squares.
While I used baby yarn, any yarn could be used. You don’t have to follow my gauge. Just adjust the number of squares you make to equal the size you want the finished blanket to be.
I’ve mentioned my church crochet club on here before. It is the perfect place to test patterns. My friend Joy graciously tested this one for me. Joy made her blanket with 6 squares by 7 squares for a final measurement of about 40″ x 46″. She used four skeins of Premier Basix DK yarn in Celery and three skeins of Bernat Softee Baby Jaquards in Faded Blooms with a 4.5 mm hook. She also added a round of reverse single crochet to the border. Isn’t her blanket (below) beautiful?!

I’m in love with this simple, whimsical blanket. Keep an eye out for its companion pattern Pocketful of Dreams coming soon.
Keep stitching, Heidi
