A Star-Shaped Suggestion

My friends know.

They know that if they even hint at something they want me to crochet them, I will have it to them as soon as possible.

My friend asked me for a grown-up-sized scoodie after church one day. I had it to her in a couple of hours.

With thick yarn, this giraffe scoodie took me only a few hours to make. This was made free-hand.

A few weeks ago, another friend had here eye on a star-shaped baby blanket I had for sale during my clearance event. Unfortunately, it sold before she could get it, plus she wanted it for herself.

Her star-shaped suggestion was heard.

Soon after, I found the desired yarn on sale. I used Bernat Blanket Stripes in Graphite and Stormy Skies. I got six skeins for $30!

Using a pattern I found with a few modifications, I came up with a fuzzy, soft, warm adult-sized blanket. It is heavy. It is huge. It is super comfy and amazing!

This Star Blanket pattern was a great fit! I made the following modifications:

Rows 1-5: As written in Color A.

Row 6: Attach Color B to any 2nd dc after the pit (the space where two points come together at the bottom) with a standing dc in the BACK THIRD LOOP. This is the bar below the back loop. Once you find it, it is easy to maintain. Use the back third loop for all stitches except the stitches in the points, and follow the directions as written.

Rows 7-9: Follow the pattern as written.

Repeat Rows 6-9 alternating Color A and Color B.

I ended with a repeat of rows 6 and 7 in Color A, then with Color B repeated Row 6 again, but used a single crochet instead of a double. It gave it a nice border.

The modifications I made gave the blanket a great ridged texture and helped to enhance the star shape since I was using a self-striping yarn.

From a star-shaped suggestion to a completed blanket in about three weeks, this was a fun challenge. I’d totally do it again.
