Do you remember the scene at the beginning of The Little Prince where the author draws a picture of an elephant…inside a snake? With a little bit of imagination and creativity, a granny square can similarly be anything.

If you’ve been reading my blog, you know that I started my Granny Square Gauntlet (a challenge to crochet 100 squares in 100 days from this book) a couple of weeks ago. Part of that challenge is that I have to turn the squares into 10 different projects with only one being allowed to be a blanket.

Today I took one square. One. Square. And made a headscarf. It could use some finessing, but it is able to be worn and accomplishes it’s stated purpose.

Project 2/10: Granny’s Headscarf

I started with the Snowflakes Square Dance Square which I made using Lion Brand Ice Cream Yarn in Lemon Meringue.

Then I took the pattern for a 1/2 granny and 1/4 granny square from the Granny Goes Wild pattern I shared a couple of weeks ago to make three triangles to get the correct shape.

I chose to slip stitch the pieces together putting 2 sc in every row of the triangles lining up with 1 sc in every st of the square.

A quick border finished it off!

My daughters are off somewhere and the neighbor wasn’t available, so you get me modeling it.

Not too bad for an evening’s work.

Pros for the headscarf:

• It is the correct shape.
• It accomplishes it’s function.
• It can be easily finished in an evening.
• Like any scarf or bandana, it could be rolled to make a headband.

Cons:

• It’s a little warm for a summer day.
• I totally tied my hair into the knot and it hurt. Ouch!
• It’s a little on the large side. I would prefer it to be a couple of inches shorter as it won’t work well on younger hair.
