It’s been a while since I gave myself a crochet challenge. I’ve been busy writing new patterns, finishing blankets, and buying new yarn, but the great thing about a challenge is that it has the potential to kick me out of my comfort zone.
I decided to crochet my way through a book.

100 Vibrant Granny Squares by Diana Krenz was released April 1, 2026. This book contains 100 intricate and colorful patterns. The squares remind me a lot of the squares I completed for the Moogly Crochet Along. Crocheting through the book means that I can’t skip a hard square and that I have to try new stitches.
The squares in this book are either 9″ or 12″ squares. If you remember, nine inches was the size needed for Project Chemo Crochet. Some of the squares will be set aside to send to this charity.
So, with that introduction, it’s now time to throw down the Granny Guantlet!
Rules for the Granny Square Gauntlet:
- I must crochet the 100 squares from this book in 100 days (excluding Sundays). This gives me a deadline of November 27th. Note: I do not have to crochet a square each day, but I have to finish in the time frame.
- A square does not count as finished until all of the ends are woven in.
- I will post an update with my completed squares every Tuesday.
- I cannot buy any new yarn for this project. This will be a true stash buster. I will use mostly worsted weight yarn, but may make some squares of other weights.
- I have to come up with 10 different types of projects to use the squares for and only one of them can be a blanket.
I’m excited for this challenge. The book itself is beautiful with written instructions and graphs for every square. It includes a difficulty rating and suggested yarn colors. And it’s hefty. With over 200 pages, it is quite the tome.
Have you ever crocheted your way through a book? If so, I’d love to hear about it.
Tomorrow’s Tuesday, so I guess I’d best get started.
Keep stitching, Heidi
